Salary Grade: The recruitment type is a contract with a daily allowance without a salary. The daily allowance will be 650.00 Ethiopian birrs per day and 500 birrs monthly mobile allowance in cash. The payment will be done after the confirmatory letter from their assigned district which will be approved by the zonal health department.

Summary Scope of Work:

Jhpiego is seeking to hire Anesthetist for an anticipated post-conflict recovery response in Amhara and Afar regions. The position will be based in selected zones of the regions to provide basic preventive and curative services.

Under the leadership of the regional Human Resource for Health (HRH) an Emergency advisor, the assigned nurse will be responsible to provide essential healthcare services to communities in conflict-affected zones. The position will be temporarily assigned staff specifically for the mobile health and nutrition team or part of a service delivery team at the assigned health facility.

As part of the health delivery team, the assigned health worker will closely work with regional and zonal health bureaus and be responsible to provide diversified healthcare services and should be experienced in providing services in an emergency context.   

The team members should be currently unemployed are expected to fully commit to service delivery in the assigned location. Assignment of the health workers will be made in consultation with respective regional health bureaus and locations will be in either health facilities or shelters for internally displaced people (IDP) in zones affected by the conflict.

The teams will be deployed to the areas where public health emergencies occurred based on the zones demand with considering the criteria. The team’s specific health facilities or working areas will be determined by the zonal health department in consultation with assigning health facilities district with the advice of the regional public health institute. The team will be relocated based on the severity of the emergency of health and nutrition needs.

Specific responsibilities

Provide day-to-day service delivery in the assigned IDP site or health facility

• Evaluating the patients' readiness before surgery.
• Preparing anesthetic plans.
• Initiating anesthesia in the operating room.
• Monitoring patients during medical procedures.
• Reversing anesthesia and managing post-operative pain.
• Performing medical administrative tasks.
• Training and supervising junior staff.

Job Requirements

• First degree in medicine with training in Anesthesia from an accredited/recognized institute with a certified professional license from authorized offices.
• Proficiency in common computer packages (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel….)
• Experience in emergency response/similar settings will have an added value
• Fluency in the local language is desired
• Thorough understanding of case management and social work
• Good communication skills with different stakeholders
• Ability to work under pressure
