Laboratory Technologist

Under overall supervision of Laboratory direct supervision of Laboratory Supervisor, employee routine laboratory tests and maintains records. Work is performed under general supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specimen Collection, Handling, and Processing:

• Receives specimens from wards and/or phlebotomy (sample collection room).
• Process specimens including receiving, accessioning and storing.
• Follows established procedures when processing specimens for analysis.
• Ensure samples are analyzed and results are delivered in a timely manner.
• Aliquot specimens properly as needed.
• Store specimens in proper place and temperature; discard specimens that exceed retention time.
• Monitor and record temperatures of refrigerators according to the prescribed procedures.

Test Performance:

• Notifies Laboratory supervisor of problems occurring during the test performance that would affect patient test results.
• Follow established procedures to ensure that results which are outside the reference limit are verified before reporting.
• Ensures that results are sent on OCS accurately on time and records are kept for a prescribed time frame.

Test Result Reporting:

• Ensure all critical results have been called and documented by workstations.
• Record results in the log book.

Instrument Related Responsibility:

• Ensures proper functioning of instruments
• Perform routine preventative maintenance of equipment as scheduled and maintain records where applicable.
• Perform QC daily to ensure that equipment’s and reagents are function well.
• Notifies Laboratory manager of any instrument malfunction.

Education                     

• Laboratory Technologist

 Experience:

• 6 years Diploma BA degree 4 year.
