Clinical Laboratory Technician

Duties and Responsibilities

Specimen collection and processing:

• Accurately collecting, labeling, and preparing blood, tissue, and other biological samples for analysis.

Operating laboratory equipment: 

• Performing tests using various instruments like microscopes, analyzers, and centrifuges.

Performing laboratory assays and procedures:

• Conducting tests according to established protocols and quality control measures.

Analyzing and interpreting test results: 

• Identifying abnormalities and reporting findings to physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Maintaining accurate records and documentation: 

• Charting test results, maintaining patient logs, and ensuring data integrity.

Adhering to safety protocols: 

• Following biosafety procedures and proper handling of hazardous materials.

Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment:

• Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting minor issues.

Quality control and assurance: 

• Participating in quality control measures and adhering to laboratory standards.

Communication and collaboration: 

• Working effectively with colleagues, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals.

Education and Certification: 

• A bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or a related field is typically required, along with state licensure as a CLT.

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in operating various laboratory equipment and performing assays accurately.

Analytical Skills: 

• Ability to interpret test results, identify abnormalities, and communicate findings clearly.

Attention to Detail: 

• Meticulous and detail-oriented to ensure accuracy and safety in all procedures.

• Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
