Duties and Responsibilities
Specimen collection and processing:
- Accurately collecting, labeling, and preparing blood, tissue, and other biological samples for analysis.
Operating laboratory equipment:
- Performing tests using various instruments like microscopes, analyzers, and centrifuges.
Performing laboratory assays and procedures:
- Conducting tests according to established protocols and quality control measures.
Analyzing and interpreting test results:
- Identifying abnormalities and reporting findings to physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Maintaining accurate records and documentation:
- Charting test results, maintaining patient logs, and ensuring data integrity.
Adhering to safety protocols:
- Following biosafety procedures and proper handling of hazardous materials.
Calibrating and maintaining laboratory equipment:
- Performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting minor issues.
Quality control and assurance:
- Participating in quality control measures and adhering to laboratory standards.
Communication and collaboration:
- Working effectively with colleagues, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals.
Education and Certification:
- A bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or a related field is typically required, along with state licensure as a CLT.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in operating various laboratory equipment and performing assays accurately.
Analytical Skills:
- Ability to interpret test results, identify abnormalities, and communicate findings clearly.
Attention to Detail:
- Meticulous and detail-oriented to ensure accuracy and safety in all procedures.
