Purpose of the Job
Under the overall guidance of the Import Division Manager, the Sr. Import Officer processes all import transactions end to end to meet the objectives of the company. The incumbent plays the required coordination role among team members to give solutions for all process requirements, promote efficient business processes, and build knowledge, team spirit, and knowledge sharing.
Job Activities
- Maintain control and ensure regulations to all import processes and monitor work according to international and local regulations and evaluate all new custom requirements
- Obtain a quotation for the purchase of goods and service
- Applying for FCY and Bank import permit on ESW system and manually when required
- Applying for a pre-import permit from the concerned organ
- Follow-up on outstanding cases such as Opened LCs, purchasing order status, delivery schedule, and shipping document, expired LCs, and related issues
- Getting duty-free privilege for capital goods import, process Francovaluta privilege at the investment office
- Clearing imports at the National Bank of Ethiopia on time before getting on the delinquency list
- Handling courier-related works like DHL/ FedEx etc.
- Handling document settlement activities
- Submitting relevant documents to the transistor for on-time assessment
- Creates and maintains’ files & documents.
- Maintain Communication with suppliers, banks, and other organizations on a day-to-day basis in order to obtain responses/clarifications timely and maintain healthy correspondences,
- Prepare periodical reports
- Provide support to staff and clients whenever required.
- N.B the job holder performs other duties as deemed necessary.
Job Requirements
Qualification
- BA or MA degree in Logistics/Supply Management or business-related field, with proven practical experience of 6 years for B.A degree and 4 years for an M.A degree.
Key Competencies
- Good knowledge of international trade operations, international chamber of commerce rules, NBE directives, and government policies and guidelines related to international trade
- Practical experience in the import operation
- Practical experience in operating ESW
- Ability to analyze cases carefully and logically, leading to a fact-based and problem-solving decision;
- Ability to consistently approach work with energy and a positive and constructive attitude;
- Self-starter and ability to manage work (perform) without supervision;
- Ability to remain calm and in control under pressure;
- Ability to meet short deadlines;
- Sound contributions to knowledge-sharing networks and communication of best practices;
- Strong personal commitment to learning the particular skills that her/his job requires
- Keen interest to work in international trade business;
- Basic computer skills, email, and other social platform usage
