Major Activities

Technical guidance to project staff

  • Developed technical guidance and tools on livelihoods components and share with project staff
  • Stay abreast of other livelihoods focused projects to ensure harmony and cross-collaboration with other related USAID and donor projects
  • Review project documents from a livelihoods perspective and advise accordingly
  • Advise project staff on livelihoods components to ensure industry standards, best practices and upheld and/or lesson learned
  • Understanding of government livelihoods activities and ensure harmonization

Implementation of project activities to meet established targets

  • Oversee livelihoods activities, advise implementing staff to ensure timelines adhered to, technical aspects implemented with fidelity, and recommend any possible changes based on the lessons learned.
  • Review and advise on tools and guidelines to aid in project implementation of livelihoods activities, ensuring established guidelines are adhered to by WV staff and consortium members. Coordinate with World Vision staff and sub-grantees staff on meeting established targets.
  • During the life of the intervention, review the performance indicators and reports produced by different stakeholders for all livelihoods related activities, and suggest necessary changes to ensure targets are met.
  • Review performance metrics and suggest measures to improve implementation progress.
  • Ensure lessons learned are drawn and shared and course correction is undertaken to continuously improve and strengthen the project performance.

Coordination & Communication with Stakeholders

  • Coordinate with communities, service providers, and local governments, consortium members and donor representative, sharing project performance, transparency of challenges with USAID and mitigation measures.
  • Ensure timely and effective communication and information sharing between different stakeholders on livelihoods aspects.
  • Assess training needs relevant to technical areas and provide, if required, training to local stakeholders.

Capacity Building

  • Oversee capacity building plans as aligned with project goals and work plan
  • Oversee and support capacity building activities with project beneficiaries as aligned with the work plan

Staff Management

  • Supervise staff that report directly to this position. Conduct regular coaching.
  • Conduct field visits in conjunction with field staff, to monitor implementation, to ensure compliance with operational procedures and assess progress as well as to deliver technical support to field staff, provide resources, and make clear recommendations on ways to strengthen the program and share learning across programs.
  • Provide staff with recommendations, guidance and mitigation measures as needed.
  • Ensure that project staff conduct activities adhering to the donor/SO standards and that the information is used to enhance decision-making process within and outside the organization.

Reports

  • Review quarterly and annual reports for livelihoods activities prior to submission to donor, provide technical guidance as needed to ensure high quality. Review reports from sub-awards and provide guidance as needed.
  • Work with the Collaboration, Learning and Adaptation (CLA) Lead to ensure high quality, coordinated, and demand driven learning, knowledge management and capacity strengthening activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Requirements

Minimum education, training and experience requirements to qualify for the position:

List academic requirements (if applicable), technical skills, or other knowledge required as a minimum qualification for this position.

  • Masterā€™s degree or equivalent in Agricultural Economics/Agriculture, Rural Development, Economics or related fields preferred.

List additional work experience required as a minimum qualification for this position.

  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience with USG or other similar development projects focusing on livelihoods (preferably with experience related to on-farm, off-farm and employment livelihoods), resilience and vulnerable households, with understanding of the Ethiopian context.

License, registration, or certification required to perform this position:

If applicable, include language requirement(s) as a minimum qualification for this position.

Spoken and Written fluency in English.Ā  Experience with USG funded programs and USG regulations.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

List academic, technical skills or other knowledge preferred for this position.

Demonstrated ability to work and coordinate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including national and local government, donors, community-based organizations, and the private sector.
