Principal Officer, Loan Review

This position is responsible to prepare plans and reports to the Loan review section; assess, identify, measure, and monitor various potential and actual credit risks of the bank, which might be associated with both internal and external factors. By considering loan book growth and asset quality maintenance, review loan files of selected borrowers to review and analyze risk exposure of credit portfolio and analyze credit portfolio diversification.  Prepare summary reports; and recommend prudential measures and report to Loan review section.

Major Duties

• Regularly reviewed and classified  loans and advances in a manner consistent with regulatory standard and shall recognize and report loans and advances which are not performing in accordance with contractual repayment terms.
• Review loans and advances to  accurately reflect the risk inherent in lending activities and to ensure that disclosed capital and earnings performance should be accurately reflected
• On behalf of Board loan review sub-committee;- recognizes accurately and timely problem of deteriorating loans and advances;  assures the adequacy of the provision for loans losses account; assures that accrued but uncollected interest reflected on the books of the bank are in accordance with the requirements laid out in this Directives; and  ensures that overdraft facilities are properly used by borrowers only for the purpose specified in the loan contract they entered with the bank, and in case such loans are diverted from the intended purpose, enables to take timely, prompt and appropriate corrective measures
• Conduct Loan files review of borrowers accounts above 5% of the Bank’s total capital;
• Review of all loans or advances required to be placed on non-accrual status;
• Review sample of the remaining loans or advances portfolio to determine that:- Loans or advances reflected as performing on the books of the Bank are in fact performing pursuant to the requirements of the NBE Directive; Overdraft facilities are used by borrowers for the intended purpose  and Ensuring the adequacy of the provision for loan losses
• Contribute to the overall delivery of the strategic initiatives to curb integrated operational risks in line with the risk and compliance managements.
• Conduct detailed analysis of recurring issues and perform root cause analysis on all arising credit administration weakness and come up with ways to mitigate the potential asset quality deteriorations
• Support loan review section head during the loan review scope preparation
• Assess and review compliance in line with NBE Directives and bank’s own policies and procedures.
• Supervise, coach and lead  subordinate employees and compile subordinate employees reports
• Liaise with risk management team to counter threats and control integrated credit and market risk managements.
• Fosters a loan review main goals in relation to knowledge sharing and awareness on the importance of loan review and credit risk management.
• Evaluate any changes, updates, and process improvement and automation activities regarding loans and advances.
• Conduct loan review in ongoing basis and produce report quarterly as per NBE Directives  and submit timely to loan review section
• Perform other related duties assigned by the supervisor

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Skills

• Bachelor's/ B.Sc. Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, Economics, Business Administration, or related fields  
• At least 5 years relevant experience with 1 years as Senior Officer as a Professional/Expert
