Job Description
The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible to ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of required financial performance, to ensure the maintenance of updated and well kept accounting books and records, and to ensure its verifiability for any audit or examination; to protect the integrity of accounting data in coordination with the ICT service limiting access to accounting systems module to authorized personnel only, to undertake financial analysis at the area and branch level and to provide advice and support to area office and Branches in accounting tasks;
Major ResponsibilitiesĀ
To consider area office and branchesā financial statements and reports:
- To follow up and collect financial statementsĀ andĀ reports from assigned area office and branches periodically as per schedulesĀ
- Check and verify submitted statement and reportsĀ
- Communicate information and liaise with area offices branchesĀ
- Facilitate and assist timely preparation and productionĀ of statements and reports in assigned area offices and branches
- Conduct regular financial analysis on branch and area base and provide the necessary advice
- Provide solution and supportĀ for transaction recording, report generation, and any other issues of the financial system to branchesĀ
- To collect, check, reconcile and consolidate assigned area office branches financial statements and reports and prepare consolidated report
- Check clearance of staff resigned or terminated ensure all the necessary documents are sent to HO office for final payment;
To ensure the maintenance of updated and well kept accounting books and records:
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly bank reconciliationĀ and promptĀ action taken or reconciling items
- Ensure observance of polices in the preparation of payment ,deposits, petty cash and vouchers
- Ensure the maintains subsidiary ledgers for all assets and liabilities (Branches and Head office)
- EnsureĀ that the accounting books and records of the area and branches under his/her supervision
- Ensure that accounting books and records of the MFI are properly field and stored for efficient retrieval and use
- Ensure that the general ledger is properlyĀ filed and stored for efficient retrieval and useĀ
- Ensure that the general ledger is properly and completely maintainedĀ
- Ensure the preparation of monthly payroll and payment of statutory deductions
- Undertakes financial ratio analysis
- Assist the accounts Manager in preparing cash flows statements for all branches and MFI
Support and Provide oversight to the other financial accounting staff at head office and branch level:
- Provide feedback to HRD on training needs of staff directly or indirectly reporting to him/her
- Reviews the work of accountant in his/her area of operation
Ensure and Assists in the preparation of documents for both internal and external:
- Provides assistance in any audit or examination to be conducted by the external auditor, governmentĀ agencies as well as other parties duly authorized by the BoardĀ of directors or the CEOĀ to conduct such activity
Maintain Sufficient Controls Systems:
- Keeps systematic monitoring of all the area office and branches under the areaĀ supervision equipment &monitor its movements and reviews its condition as compared to its book valueĀ
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly bank reconciliation and prompt action taken on reconciling items
- Works with the treasurer to ensure adequate control of cash and other assets according to laid down policies of HO.
Reporting:
- Promptly produce regular financial and other reports on monthly, quarterly, yearly and as neededĀ
- Undertake financial analysis at the HO and produce a report with appropriate recommendations
- Produces for reviews monthly income, balance sheet, and cash flow statement of his/her area of operationsĀ
- Performs other related duties as required.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in accounting/Finance or related fields.Ā
- A chartered accountant is an added advantage.
- 6 years of work experience for a Bachelor's degree or 8 years for a Diploma holder.Ā
- Determined personality with initiative, perseverance, and the ability to motivate and manage a team
- Capability and willingness to take responsibility and highly developed sense of integrity
- Ready to comply and live up to and in accordance with the organization Ideals and Core values
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office, Sun systems and excellent use of Excel spreadsheets
- Highly developed sense of reliability and accuracy
- Be a good trainer, facilitator, mentor, and coach
- Very good communication skills
