Job Description
The Registered midwife professional main duty is to accept primary responsibility and accountability in delegating and assisting in the provision of quality comprehensive nursing care to the patients and to relieve the head supervisor of the assigned unit as necessary. The midwife is responsible for handling all activities involving the Laboring mother.
Major Responsibility
- Receiving the patients at the reception room (in the L/W)
- Examination and monitoring of pregnant women
- Assessing care requirements and writing a care plan
- Undertaking antenatal care
- Caring out screening tests
- Providing information, emotional support, and reassurance to women and their partners
- Taking patient samples, V/S including fetal heart rate
- Monitoring the fetus during labor
- Advising about and supporting parents in the daily care of the newborn babies
- Checking for admission formalities or completeness
- Changing the clothes and shoes of the patient and submitting them to the relatives
- Screening patients with gynecological emergencies and Notifying the gynecologist if indicated
- Document all treatment given to the patient writing must be legible including the name, and signature of the responsible medical personnel on the individual patient chart documenting all deliveries conducted in the unit and updating the report, keeping track of medical supplies; equipment, and medications
- Responsible for facilitating and making sure all preoperative preparation is complete. This includes
- Clipping/Shaving,
- Catheterization if needed,
- Make sure laboratory investigation is updated before taking the patient to the OR,
- Secure IV line,
- Administer prophylactic antibiotics based on protocol,
- Facilitate transfer of the patient to OR,
- Receive babies born by C/S and gives immediate neonatal care and inform the obstetrician and pediatrician if needed,
- Giving information to the clients about the operation and making sure the patient has a written consent;
- Helping parents cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, and neonatal death.
Job Requirements
- BSC in Midwifery from an approved nursing institution.
- Current Registered Midwifery (RN) from the country of origin.
- Knowledge in Infusion Pump utilization and calculation.
- From 2 to 5 years of experience as a Midwife.
- Good communication skills.
- Some computer skills.
- Good observation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Language: Fluent in English (oral & written).
