Job Description

Brief Profile of the College:

Established in 2002, Universal Medical & Business College (UMBC), is one of the pioneers in the Ethiopian Private Higher Education sector. Since its establishment, UMBC has been offering quality education and training in various health fields including Pharmacy, Nursing and Public Health programs both at undergraduate degree and TVET/diploma level. The College lately has launched its 1st Postgraduate program, i.e. Public Health in Nutrition. Currently, having its headquarter around Hayahulet Mazoria, behind Dinberua Hospital, UMBC is on the verge of launching new Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programs in Business and Finance fields of studies along with expanding its existing programs in terms of level and catchment area. In doing so, the College invites qualified and interested applicants in the following vacant position/s who will assist in realizing its goal. 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares the Office’s annual plan and ensures its appropriate implementation, and prepares and submits monthly/bi-monthly/quarterly/annual performance reports accordingly;
  • Plans and accordingly implements all tasks of the Department;
  • Conducts and leads internal quality assessments/ evaluations in line with the requirements the College as well as other stakeholders of the College;
  • Conducting regular (monthly, quarterly and spontaneous) audits  by acting as external auditor to all offices of the College;
  • Advices the Senate and AC of the College in the establishment of courses and curricula;
  • Ensures the presence of sustainable and modern documentation system and practices at all offices;
  • Lead and realize effective conduction of institutional and program audits effectively;
  • Facilitates training for College staff members on quality assurance related matters;
  • Coordinates the development of academic resources including curriculum and training materials by developing academic resources and implementation polices & guidelines;
  • Collects feedbacks from customers on relevance and standards of education in collaboration with other offices and departments of the College;
  • Update (or ensure) existing systems of the College consistently;
  • Ensure full implementation of existing systems, policies, guidelines, checklists of the College and other regulatory bodies of the country;
  • Carry out other activities as required;

Job Requirements

Summary of Job Requirements:

Any successful candidate for this advertised position is expected to be able to plan, coordinate, and direct all activities of the Quality Assurance Office of the College. He/she is expected to be able to demonstrate a good knowledge, skill and attitude on the overall operations of Private Higher Educational Institutions in the Ethiopian context. He/she will be expected to undertake the overall tasks that could ensure the maximum possible quality in the input, process and output level both in the administrative and academic activities of the college.

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • MSc/MA/BSc/BA in Language, Communication/Journalism, Educational Planning & Management, Curriculum, Information System/ Management Information System, Management, or Related Fields;
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience preferably in the Ethiopian Private Higher Education sector of which at least two years as Head of Quality Assurance and/or Curriculum Department;

Essential Competencies & Qualities

  • Deep knowledge of  ETA’s expectations and the overall working system;
  • Oral & Written fluency in English and Amharic languages;
  • Knowledge of the theories, principles & practices of management;
  • Excellent facilitation and networking skills; proven experience in coordinating & leading team/s;
  • Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal & demonstrational skills;
  • Good communication and report writing skills;
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and quality management systems;
  • Ability to work in pressures and to meet deadlines;
  • Faithfulness to work ethics, to the rules and regulations in all aspects
