Job Description

Reports to: HumanitarianĀ 

Type of Contract:Ā 5 Month Contract with possibility of extension

Required Number: Five (5)

Duty Base: Borena Zone, Oromia Region

Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Project officer will be responsible to implement the project activities that are related to WASH, Health, Nutrition, and protection in its implementation of Woredas. This will include working with other sectors, NGOs, UN agencies, and government services, on providing support to some of the most vulnerable members of the community. Activities will include supporting training and capacity building, advocacy, communicating key messages and increasing awareness, working with the community and local services to increase the capacity of services related to WASH, Health, Nutrition, and protection, and carrying out woreda level activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advocate for the rights of women, girls & vulnerable people and targeted the rights holders through contact with local authorities, government officials, community leaders and elders, humanitarian partners, and other relevant actors
  • Support the delivery of formal and on-the-job training and coaching for health and community workers, and other key stakeholders on protection principles, gender, and MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support)
  • Participate in rapid needs assessments (including protection, gender analysis, and psychosocial support) through field visits in villages, camps, and other informal settlements with persons of concern within the community and identify individuals at risk and humanitarian needs
  • Provide support to other agencies and local authorities in order to map services, collect data and provide monitoring reports.
  • Monitor, assess, observe and report on key protection concerns and rights violations in the field
  • Support the delivery of awareness raising and training for associations and community groups, teachers, and other key influencers to increase awareness, capacity, and support.
  • Provide support to other sectors (for instance Livelihood, WASH, Education & Health) as needed to deliver the program and mainstreaming activities.
  • Ensure that activities are recorded, and activity reports are provided to the line manager by the agreed deadline and are of high quality.
  • Provide individual and group Psychosocial Support and counseling to child and adult women & girl rights holders/survivors either directly or through supporting health/Project officers
  • Support the process of referring cases of women & girls, and vulnerable people internally, through government primary care services and specialist partners or UN agencies.
  • Participate in the assessment, monitoring, and auditing of mainstreaming activities
  • Facilitating women and young peoplesā€™ leadership in humanitarian actions & ensure the implementation of AAEā€™s humanitarian signatures and program approaches,
  • Engage in the selection of WASH NFI Beneficiaries, prepare Beneficiary Lists for all the Woredas in line with AAEā€™s Humanitarian Signatures,
  • Actively engage in WASH NFIs distribution, PDM, and other related activities to ensure that the distribution is in line with AAEā€™s Humanitarian signature and Donors requirement,
  • Actively participate in activities of Water supply schemes rehabilitation, and new constructions, and facilitate any emerging needs
  • Facilitate the delivery of Electromechanical equipment, Hand Pumps, and other WASH NFIā€™s, check the proper functioning of the supplies after installation together with the local actors, and seek confirmation from the local stakeholders,
  • Ensure the establishment of WASHCOs (Women Lead) along all Woredas in line with AAEā€™s requirements

SHEA &safeguardingĀ·Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā 

  • Conduct activities in accordance with the rules of the SHEA & Safeguarding Policy, which includes reporting actual incidents and suspicions of SHEA
  • Ensure that all activities are seen through SHEA & safeguarding lens;
  • Be vigilant about observing possible SHEA against vulnerable communities
  • Ensure all partners, rights holders, goods and services suppliers and any consultants Ā of ActionAid Ethiopia are aware of the SHEA & safeguarding policy and promote the same Ā to women, children and their families, and community members in general,
  • Conduct project risk assessment using the given template and mitigation plans are addressed
  • Report performance of SHEA & safeguarding activities per quarter,

Job Requirements

  • BA Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Social work, Public Health and /or Gender or related field of study
  • Relevant work-related field experience in humanitarian response, minimum 4 years for BA holders & the experiences related to Protection, Gender, or Psychosocial Support.
  • Excellent understanding of protection principles, human rights, and case management
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to gain trust and build relationships with new communities
  • Previous humanitarian experience preferred
  • Good understanding of humanitarian principles
  • Experience in project management and Ā report writing
  • Language ā€“ high level of written and spoken English & the local language
  • Good knowledge of local customs and language (for instance Oromiffa)
