WIDU-Employment Promotion in the Informal Sector in Africa and together with the Diaspora
GIZ is seeking a junior project officer to support the project “Employment promotion in the informal sector by leveraging diaspora money transfers†- WIDU.africa platform. The GIZ project is a regional project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) that gives (financial and non-financial) incentives to invest remittances in friends’ and families’ micro and small businesses and thereby improve the employment and income situation in Africa. Through the digital WIDU.africa platform (www.widu.africa), grant applications are submitted jointly by members of the African Diaspora in Germany and business start-ups and micro-entrepreneurs in Africa. Entrepreneurs are supported by improved access to finance through the topping-up of diasporas’ transfers of funds and capacity-building of entrepreneurial skills.
After successfully piloting the project in Ghana and Cameroon it is being rolled out to Ethiopia in Q1 2021.

Job Requirements
Responsibilities and Tasks
The Junior Project Officer
- Provides administrative and technical support to the project
- Handles administrative procedures of the project in the backend of the WIDU online platform
- Is responsible for steering and ensuring effective and efficient office functions
- Assists in the preparation of project activities and ensures knowledge management and the organization of events.
- Ensures that administrative regulations are complied with.
Tasks
1. Administration
The Junior Project officer
- Assists in planning, organizing, and managing project activities (meetings, training, etc.), including travel arrangements for the project team and supporting in the travel management of participants
- Oversees administrative processes on the WIDU online platform (e.g. moderation in the backend, verification of completeness of files, verification of coaching reports, etc.)
- Ensures the maintenance of all office equipment of the project
- Manages everyday secretarial issues at her/his duty station
- Liaises with an administrative and financial staff of the cluster as well as the GIZ country office in relation to administrative and logistical procedures.
2. Coordination and communication
The Junior Project Officer
- Ensures that information is exchanged between project staff, cluster, and partner organizations
- Prepares and administers official correspondence of the project
- Assist in preparing and documenting training and meetings with partners or within the team
- Organizes and compiles information and presentation materials including the organizing of photos and other media on WIDU.
3. Monitoring
The Junior Project Officer
- Is responsible for the verification of completeness of entrepreneur’s information and receipts on the WIDU platform
- Supports in coordinating the timely payment of entrepreneurs via bank accounts, mobile money or other means of transfer
- Supports the results-based monitoring process of the project using the WIDU platform.
4. Other duties and additional tasks
The Junior Project Officer
- Supports the operationalization of new financial and administrative procedures based on the backend and moderation processes on the WIDU platform
- Resolves simple issues concerning IT software and hardware in the office
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.
Required qualifications, professional experience, and additional competencies
Qualifications
- University degree in business administration or other relevant specialization and qualification desirable (the equivalent of BA or MBA)
- Experience in GIZ in the relevant subject context is desirable
Professional experience
- At least 3 years of professional working experience with a focus on administration in an international context
Other knowledge and additional competencies
- Proven organization and coordination skills using methods for time management and task prioritization
- Excellent communication (written and spoken) in English and Amharic. Additional Ethiopian languages are an advantage
- Very good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, phone, email, internet), Excel and other computer applications (e.g. MS Office) and openness to work with new platforms
- Ability to work as part of a project team
- Willingness to strengthen skills and competencies as required by the tasks.
